This course explores advanced topics in labour economics, with a focus on both theoretical frameworks and empirical applications. Core subjects include equilibrium unemployment, job search theory, wage determination mechanisms, the labour income process, and labour mobility.

A significant portion of the course is dedicated to examining macroeconomic policy issues affecting labour markets, such as employment insurance. Each major topic is complemented by data analysis assignments and econometric applications, providing hands-on experience with real-world labour market data.

The course emphasizes the connection between economic theory and empirical work. All empirical exercises are grounded in the theoretical models covered in class. Students will conduct econometric analysis using software such as Stata, R, SPSS, or SAS. While students may use any of these platforms for assignments, classroom instruction will be delivered exclusively using R.
