ACTT 498/4: (Winter 2025) Special Topics in Acting: Voice/Movement/Text/Song
Schedule: Tue-Wed-Thu-Fri, 14:00-16:55 | Winter 2025 | 3 credits
Course Description
This course aims to develop students’ skills in voice and movement, as well as in text and song. It also provides students experience in interdisciplinary and collaborative processes and seeks to nurture their personal creativity. Through various projects and exercises, students in this class will create and develop “self-based” characters, which explore the potential of their voice and body. This process will inform the creative development of various performance pieces (in solo and small groups).
Most classes will start with a warmup for the voice, body and/or imagination. We will draw from a large pool of techniques, exercises, and games. Such warmups will help students cumulatively gain knowledge of their voice and body, as well as help develop creative strategies for character-building and the creation of their performance pieces.
Ample space will be carved out for discussion, brainstorming and creative development. Students are encouraged to share their joys, concerns, observations, challenges or questions.
