FMAN 203/B (Fall 2024): INTRO. TO ANIMATION I
This class is designed to introduce the study and practice of frame-by-frame filmmaking. It concentrates on the basic principles of animated motion, tempo and change. Students are taught the classical animation language through a series of exercises and will explore a variety of animation techniques. This course is for students to gain an understanding of the basics of animated motion and to explore a variety of animation techniques all with the longer-term goal of encouraging them to develop a personal approach to the art of frame-by-frame filmmaking.
Individual and group critiques form an essential component of each class. Students will be expected to share their exercises with classmates in the spirit of helping each other and improving their own eye for movement. Students will be expected to watch many films that will be discussed to develop awareness and appreciation of different animation genres and techniques.
