HIST 403/A (Winter 2024): METHODOLOGY & HISTORY
History is the study of change over time. Determining what has changed, how primary sources document that change, and the best practices for working with those sources are questions of methodology. This course is a hands-on introduction to and workshop in historical methodology for honors students. We will cover the nuts and bolts of historical research, ethics, and presentation; interpret a variety of different kinds of sources; assess the differences between quantitative and qualitative methods; and question what constitutes a historian’s archive and evidence base.
