Course Description: Students will be provided with an overview of scientific inquiry and investigative research. Students will receive instruction in critical enquiry and appraisal, research design, research ethics, and the role of research in the development of professional practice/skills. This course provides the necessary knowledge for students to understand the entire life cycle of an experimental research project, from study design to data collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation. More specifically, the following concepts will be covered in detail throughout the course:

Research processes and the scientific method

Generating research questions and ideas

Ethical practices in research

Quantitative and qualitative research study designs

Basic principles of statistical analysis

Communicating science to research and general audiences
