COMS 276/01 (Fall, 2023): COMM. MEDIA:SOUND I
This course introduces you to acoustic, analog, and digital aspects of
sound. Through practical exercises—working in teams when possible—you’ll
explore the communicational and aesthetic characteristics of sound
while learning how to structure your own audio recordings into
expressive aural forms.
This is a hands-on production course, introducing you to a broad spectrum of contemporary sound studies literature, as well as a variety of listening, recording, and editing techniques. Our primary goal is to produce high quality, evocative, “soundscape compositions” that may include, for example, acousmatic, radio play, or audio documentary genres.
