SOCI 221/A (Fall, 2023): DIGITAL CULTURE

Digital media stands as one of the most powerful institutions in modern society. To grasp its influence, it is crucial to understand how our daily interactions with digital culture are shaped by broader industrial, political, ideological, and social contexts. This introductory course offers a sociological perspective for understanding life in a digital world. By emphasizing structure-agency dynamics, we will explore the complex interactions between individuals, digital culture, technology, and society. This course also equips students with skills to critically evaluate conventional wisdom and their own assumptions about mediated life.
