JOUR 302/01 (Fall, 2023): REPORTING & RESEARCH METHODS FOR JOURNALISTS

This course introduces students to journalistic research methods with a focus on primary sources, such as official documents, legal and financial records, access to information requests/freedom of information requests, electronic databases, and in-depth interviews. Research methods are treated as both sources for story ideas and as essential elements of good reporting. This course is designed to provide students with

  • a thorough grounding in journalistic research methods; 
  • the skills needed to make sense of the information gathered through research; 
  • the ability to use the information gathered through research to produce accurate and compelling stories.
