SCOL 350/02 (Winter 2025): Cancer Biology
We will navigate the hallmarks of cancer first described by Hanahan and Weinberg, 2001 (updated in recent years) on how cancers arise, grow and spread in the body. This includes learning how cancer cells divide uncontrollably, the role of the immune system in cancers, changes in metabolism that occur in cancers, how cancer cells can move to new locations, how cancer cells co-opt healthy cells to support their growth and movement, and how we can harness our knowledge of cancers to develop treatments.
